　昨年にアニメ化40周年となり、峰不二子、銭形警部、石川五ェ門に新キャストを迎えた「ルパン三世」。新たなテレビシリーズでは、ルパン ではなく、常に彼を手玉に取る、アニメ界を代表するヒロイン不二子を軸に、ルパン、次元、五ェ門、銭形ら五人の若かりし時代の活躍を描くという。

　シリーズ開始以降、近年もスペシャル番組が定期的に放送され続け、「名探偵コナン」との共演まで果たしているアニメ版ルパン。今回のよう なテレビシリーズとしての放送は、1985年に終了した「ルパン三世PARTIII」以来実に27年ぶりのことに。深夜帯の放送で、原作に漂うアダルトで エロチックなテイストを取り込んだ作品となる。毎回不二子が見せるセクシーなファッションにもこだわっているということで、期待が高まる。

　監督は、「ルパン」史上初の女性監督になるという山本沙代。「サムライチャンプルー」の各話絵コンテと演出を務め、「ミチコとハッチン」 で監督デビューを果たした手腕を振るう。さらにキャラクターデザインは映画『REDLINE』の小池健が担当、シリーズ構成は「あの日見た花の名前を僕達 はまだ知らない。」の岡田麿里が務めるなど、現在のアニメ界でも旬なメンツが脇を固める。
