和月伸宏「るろうに剣心 －明治剣客浪漫譚－」の新作アニメが約9年ぶりに制作されると、本日4月21日発売のジャンプスクエア5・6合併号（集英社）にて発表された。
「るろうに剣心」は今年でTVアニメ制作15周年。これを記念したさまざまな企画が、新作アニメ以外にも進行中だ。まず7月27日にはTVアニメのOP3 曲、ED7曲に劇場版主題歌を含むコンピレーションCD「るろうに剣心 Complete Collection」が発売。期間限定生産版には、ノンクレジットOP&ED映像、特典映像が収録されたDVDや、制作秘話などを多数収録した ブックレットが封入される。
また8月からは劇場版やOVAの3タイトルがBlu-ray化。8月24日に「るろうに剣心-明治剣客浪漫譚- 追憶編」、9月21日に「るろうに剣心- 明治剣客浪漫譚- 星霜編」、10月26日に「劇場版 るろうに剣心-明治剣客浪漫譚- 維新志士への鎮魂歌」と、3カ月連続でリリースされる予定だ。
