６７歳だった。告別式は２１日午前９時３０分から、東京都府中市多磨町２の１の１の多磨葬祭場思親殿。喪主は兄の哲氏。
１９６３年に旧虫プロダクションに入社。「鉄腕アトム」の作画に参加。フリーになった後、テレビアニメ「ムーミン」「ベルサイユのばら」 の演出などを手がけ、「エースをねらえ！」「とっとこハム太郎」の映画版などを監督した。画面分割や光を効果的に使った映像が高く評価された。
